Yes! Claimants MUST enter gross pay. Always. Gross pay is what employees earn before taxes, benefits, and other payroll deductions are withheld from their wages. Net pay is your take home pay and isn’t an accurate measure of your income.

2. Does this new system wipe out my past filing history?

It does not. All previous filing history will be documented.

3. How is my weekly benefit amount calculated?

CTDOL takes the average of the two highest paid quarters in the claimant’s base period and divides by 26. The base period is the first four of the last five quarters. If the claimant does not qualify in the regular base period, CTDOL may use an alternate base period using quarter wages. See BRI booklet for details.

4. How do I cancel my unemployment claim?

Call the Consumer Contact Center. If you haven’t collected any benefits and the claim is less than six months old, you may be able to cancel it. If you have collected benefits on that claim, you would need to talk to us about repaying the benefits.

5. I forgot to file.

If you forgot to file your weekly certification on Sunday, you can still file for the previous week until the following Sunday. You can file for one week retroactively, but if you miss more than a week, call the Consumer Contact Center for help.

6. Where do I report my return-to-work date?

When you file your weekly certification, you will be asked about your return-to-work date. You will also get a work search waiver—you will not have to complete the work search requirement.

7. When do I file my weekly claim?

Each Sunday is the start of a new claim week. You may file your claim for the previous week on Sunday through Saturday of that week. If you miss filing for the week, you may file for one retroactive week. If you miss filing more than one week, you must call the Consumer Contact Center.

8. Do I file weekly or every other week?

Claims in Connecticut are filed weekly beginning on Sundays.

9. I work 40 hrs/week but I received a pay cut, can I file for the lost wages?

No. If you work 35-40 hours per week you are considered full-time and you are not eligible for benefits. There are some careers that are considered full time under 35-40 hours.

10. Do I need to create a new username and password for ReEmployCT?

Yes. You must create a new username and password in ReEmployCT. Even if you have a continuing claim and you are just filing a weekly certification, you need new credentials. ReEmployCT will not recognize your old username and password. Creating new credentials is a snap; when you get into the system click on ‘create account’ on the left side of the sign in page. You will be prompted for your name, date of birth, and other information. Then you will create a new username and password and security questions.

11. I do not have access to a computer, how can I file?

If you do not have access to a computer or the internet, please visit one of our American Job Centers. They will be able to assist you with filing your claim and answering your questions. Additionally, libraries have computers available for use for free, as do some community centers. The federal government has a program to help people get affordable high-speed internet.

12. How do I add a dependent?

The unemployment application asks for information about dependents. If a filer did not report the dependent at the time of application, call the Consumer Contact Center for help in adding the dependent.

13. How can I check my weekly benefit amount?

After you log in to your ReEmployCT account, you will see your weekly benefit amount and the amount left on your claim on the right side of the screen. Remember, you will need to create a new username and password if you haven’t created an account in ReEmployCT. The information about your claim has moved over from the old system to ReEmployCT, but you need new credentials to see it. ReEmployCT does not recognize your old username and password.

14. Will you still be sending a summary of benefits via mail once a new filer applies and is accepted?

Monetary determination letters will still be sent out by U.S. post as usual. Claimants will also receive an email with the BRI link.

15. Can I change my tax deduction using the new system?

Yes, you will be able to change your tax deduction directly in ReEmployCT.

16. I have a question and want to speak to a representative, where do I go/what do I do?

Our Consumer Contact Center is available to answer all your unemployment questions. Chat with a representative or schedule a callback. Unable to chat? Use our virtual assistant for many questions.

17. Do I need to enter tips?

Yes. You must report all income, wages, and tips to CTDOL. These wages should be added into your gross income for the week in which you are filing for. Failure to report all income could result in an overpayment and penalties. Please note that purposefully misrepresenting your income to CTDOL is a criminal act and unemployment fraud.

18. I run a small business on in addition to my main occupation. Do I need to include those profits when filing?

No. The dependent allowance is awarded to the spouse who is the main, or only, support.

Yes, doing a work search is a condition of receiving unemployment benefits. You must report your work search activities in your claim for the week. Work search waivers can be granted if:

You must call the Consumer Contact Center to change your name or date of birth.

You may update your address on the ReEmployCT claimant dashboard.

25. Can I file for one employer, but not the other?

No. An unemployment claim is a combination of your work history; multiple employers are used to calculate and determine eligibility. You cannot choose to file a claim against one particular employer.

26. Will collecting unemployment affect my taxes?

Yes, depending on your unemployment tax deduction selection. Unemployment benefits are taxable as income.

27. How many weeks of unemployment can I collect?

Generally, unemployed workers may collect up to 26 weeks of benefits. There are certain circumstances when the federal government increases benefit weeks, such as during times of high unemployment. You will be notified if extended benefits are available.

28. How long will my unemployment claim take to process?

Each unemployment claim is decided on a case-by-case basis. Most claims are processed within 10 days . For claims that involve employment in other states or income from federal programs, claims may take slightly longer to process as CTDOL must wait for those entities to respond. There are other situations that may delay or interrupt a claim, for example, separation hearings, wage investigations, or if an employer files an appeal.

29. Where will my unemployment funds be deposited to?

You may choose to have benefits paid by debit card, which you will receive through the U.S. mail, or you may have your benefits direct deposited into your bank account.

30. I selected ‘pre-paid debit card’ but I want direct deposit, can I fix this?

Yes, if you receive a pre-paid debit card in the mail and wish to switch over to direct deposit, you must change your method of payment. You may do this through the setting in your ReEmployCT account.

31. Can I use my old password and username?

No. Once ReEmployCT launches on July 5th, you will be prompted to create a new password and username. The ReEmployCT system does not recognize your old username and password.

For new filers, the transition to ReEmployCT will begin on June 20, 2022. That means that all new applications for unemployment benefits will be filed when ReEmployCT launches on July 5, 2022 at noon. At that point, new filers may file retroactively for the week ending June 25 AND the week ending July 2. For existing filers, you may file on June 5th at noon when ReEmployCT launches. July 2nd is part of the transition period to ReEmployCT. CTDOL is moving 6.2 billion pieces of data, decommissioning the old system, and establishing the new system in that time period.

ReEmployCT is a much-needed technology update that replaces the agency’s 40-year-old unemployment filing system. ReEmployCT has several improvements to make filing your claim easier like:

If you forgot your password, request a password reset through ReEmployCT. If your account is locked, call the Consumer Contact Center or go to the lockout link on www.filectui.com.

40. How do I pay an overpayment?

To pay an overpayment, you must visit our overpayment page.

41. How do I view my child support deduction?

Benefit payments can be found on the claim inquiry page which is available right after you log in. Click into the benefit payment screen itself and the deduction should show up in the benefit payment record.

42. How do I know when my employer enters my Shared Work payment?

Claimants and employers much enter their weekly certifications as directed. Once both parties complete the certification, the payment is released. The claimant is not notified separately when the employer enters the Shared Work weekly certification.
